Snake Bite

I followed the snake, through the grass

Laughing with every turn and pass

A sharp left then a meander right

It turned and hissed and chose to fight

It snaked its way into the underbrush

Leaving me bitten and screaming so much

I jostled my hand. Oh, Oh no

My muscles spasmed in a violent throe

I had no antidote to counteract

And the venom was very quick to act

My joints seized up and my thinking's slow

This is how I die— a foolish way to go

I reached for my

phone

I am dying

alone

My fingers are

numb

Dear God I'm

dumb

I spoke aloud

"Siri"

At least someone

Hears me

"Send a text to my Wife:

I had a good life

I love you dearly

But I have messed up severely

I made a mistake

And was bitten by a snake

Here I lie

I am about to die

But I'm thinking of nothing but you"

Moments after, she looked at the text

Staring at the screen, seeming perplexed

Why on Earth had her husband messaged out of the blue

That he's "thinking of ordering buck poo?"

I followed the snake, through the grass

Laughing with every turn and pass

A sharp left then a meander right

It turned and hissed and chose to fight

It snaked its way into the underbrush

Leaving me bitten and screaming so much
