Beware the draught of shallow springs,
The hollow praise of hollow rings,
Drops of venom, slick and sly
Turn petals pale and roots awry
In a twist of storied lie
The fairer flowers in silence die
And though exposure poisons breath
With daylight loss and ego death
Where every 'lick, a fateful sip,
Fragile systems begin to slip
Seek not the poison nor fleeting sky
Not gilded words that mask the why
We once sweet, now bitter scold,
As into mirror the world drains cold
Beware the draught of shallow springs,
The hollow praise of hollow rings,
Drops of venom, slick and sly
Turn petals pale and roots awry
In a twist of storied lie
The fairer flowers in silence die
And though exposure poisons breath
With daylight loss and ego death
Where every 'lick, a fateful sip,
Fragile systems begin to slip
Seek not the poison nor fleeting sky
Not gilded words that mask the why
