I wrote for you a parody

Of something you hold dear

I do not intend for mockery

'though my motives are unclear

In verse written carefully

My tale begins to rise

Of hidden thoughts and memories

Wearin' metaphorical disguise

Between these lines lies subtlety

Abstraction through device

Hints at truth and mystery

From sentences I splice

Through playful jest and mimicry

Through anecdotal lie

Masquerading under irony

Where sincerity goes to die

For I wrote for you a parody

As I seek for what may grow

Because I wrote for you a parody
