"DO NOT EAT" the note read
I ate it anyway
It tasted like bread
Delicious!
When I opened the fridge the next day
Side by side
Two of them on the top tray
The notes screamed "DO NOT EAT"
but that's never stopped me before
I chowed down on them both
And was hungry for more
Delicious!
I thought about them all the time
So delightful
Was just a little crime
And then four there were in the fridge
Late the next afternoon
And like a responsible adult
I used a spoon
Delicious!
The next day was a challenge but happily accepted
Eight there were now
Of course "DO NOT EAT" was rejected
Did mere paper think it was the boss of me?
I owned this town
So I ate them all up
I will never back down
Delicious!
I checked the fridge every hour
The other foods I ate
Tasted barren, bitter or sour
Craving to break some more rules
I found the fridge stocked full
And counted out all thirty-two
The taste never got dull
Delicious!
Opening the fridge— they spilt onto the floor
This was getting hard now
Could I really eat sixty-four?
Yes! I told myself
Never give in!
Don't give paper the satisfaction
Of scoring a win
Delicious?
I was fueled by pettiness and hate
I see that now
One hundred and twenty-eight
No mere mortal
Could eat that much food
But I ate and ate
And was left in a foul mood
Delicious...
Please make it end
I am so sorry
I can no longer contend
This is my formal apology
I promise by all that is right
Not to do that again
I was corrupted by spite
That wasn't me, it was somebody else
The note was not taunting
It was warning me about myself
Yet old habits are still haunting
One last time, I opened the door
What else could I do?
I only came for a look...
But what a glorious view
MmmmMMMmmmmmmm...
Delicious!
